North Georgia has been parched again this Summer. The Spring rainfall was enough to carry us out of our years-long drought but not enough to make for a banner year in Southern Appalachian mycology.
We have actually gotten rain for perhaps four out of the last five days. The chances for a decent harvest are good. I will hopefully put a bunch of amazing pictures up when I get back.
Update: the trip to the mountain was a lot of fun but mycologically somewhat disappointing. We saw a few big mushrooms that I was unable to identify and will put some cool pictures up. But, of course we were hoping for dozens of pounds of huge chanterelles.
This past week, 3rd and 4th, I believe, were fantastic. (when it got cold those few nights) I found all sorts of random mushrooms (Summer Redcaps [Boletus fraternus] for sure). One that was even neon yellow/clear capped, very strange. Though I didn't have my camera or a guidebook, just hiking and noticed flushing everywhere. I'd say at least 15 different kinds.
Aw, too bad about the camera and guidebook. Yeah, it starting to get wet and cool; should be a lot coming up pretty soon.
